Spiced and Candied Nuts

Here is part 1 of my holiday gift guide for cheap or broke people (or both). I think food gifts are great and are relatively low cost. You can make these bad boys way in advance and keep em’ in the freezer until you’re ready to give them away. Eat them by the handful or put them on top of salads or ice cream.

Spiced Nuts

Spiced & Candied Nuts

Prep time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 2 hours
Total time: 2 hours 10 minutes
Yield: 6 cups


INGREDIENTS

  • 3 cups pecan halves

  • 3 cups walnuts

  • 3 egg whites

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger

  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • 1/8 teaspoon ground allspice

  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves


DIRECTIONS

Preheat oven to 225F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. In a large bowl whisk together egg whites until frothy. Add nuts, and toss to evenly coat. In a separate bowl stir together the sugar and spices. Pour over the egg white/nut mixture and toss again to coat. Spread this out on the baking sheet in an even layer and bake for 2 hours. Let cool completely. Can be kept at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 1 week or frozen for up to 1 month.
