Homemade Eggnog

Everybody: quit buying store bought eggnog immediately! The difference is insane and this is actually so easy to make. Try it once and you will change your mind forever. I dislike store-bought eggnog but I can get down with this every year. This recipe does contain raw eggs but that kinda makes me feel like I’m channelling my inner Rocky. Queue the Rocky theme song.

Yield: approximately 6 cups

 

INGREDIENTS

  • 6 large eggs, yolk and whites separated

  • ¾ cup granulated sugar

  •  3 cups whole milk

  •  1 ½ cups heavy cream

  •   ½ cup bourbon or rum

  •   1 teaspoon nutmeg

  •   1 teaspoon vanilla extract



DIRECTIONS

In a large bowl whisk together egg yolks and sugar until light yellow in colour and a creamy consistency. Slowly add in milk, heavy cream, bourbon, nutmeg and vanilla, whisking until well combined. In a separate bowl whisk the egg whites until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the egg whites into the eggnog mixture and serve. Will keep refrigerated for up to 3 days. If you are not using liquor this will only keep refrigerated for one day.
