Pretzel Wrapped Hot Dogs with Everything Bagel Spice and Cheesy Mustard Dipping Sauce

Hot dogs are my guilty pleasure. I am fully aware that they are made of hoofs and snouts and whatever other grossness and ground up into a delicious edible phallus looking object and I don’t care. So let’s celebrate that. Plus I made pretzels and topped them with everything bagel spice (the BEST kind of bagel) to really get into it. Making lasagna is a labour of love. It’s time consuming but the end result is well worth it. Plus this feeds a small crowd! This recipe will yield extra meat sauce, which you will be able to freeze and serve over pasta for a quick weeknight meal whenever you are running low on time. I tried to sneak in some extra vegetables in this recipe to make up for the overload of cheese… as if it makes a difference.

Portobello & Yam Shepard's Pie

This is a classic comfort food turned extra healthy. I baked these on Portobello mushrooms for an extra serving of vegetables. I used purple yams (but you could use regular yams) on top instead of the usual mashed potato topping, and omitted the dairy altogether. These are hearty and a great meal for a cold fall evening and are also gluten free.

The secret to this recipe is time. When you first add in all of the liquid ingredients it seems like your are making a soup, but once it simmers for 2 hours all of the flavours combine to make a rich and hearty meat sauce. This also makes a great freezer meal. Freeze the meat sauce in individual portions (or enough for 2 people), for a quick & easy weeknight meal.
